Terms of Membership

These terms cover your use of Holocene: the website, the free flight alerts, the paid membership, and the community. By joining the waitlist or becoming a member you agree to them.

1. What Holocene is

Holocene is a travel membership: flight deal alerts, curated libraries of accommodations, restaurants and experiences, a member community, and monthly group coaching calls.

We are not a travel agent, airline, tour operator or accommodation provider. We do not sell or book travel. When you book, your contract is with the airline, booking site, host or venue, and their terms apply.

You must be at least 18 to use Holocene.

2. Plans

• Member: $19 per month or $149 per year. Every tool, instant alerts, the community and the group coaching calls.
• Founding 200: $79 per year or $15 per month. See section 4.
• Push: limited one-on-one coaching, sold separately. TODO: Push terms.

Prices are in US dollars and exclude any taxes that apply. What is included in each plan may change as we add or retire features. We will not remove the core of what you paid for during a period you have already paid for.

3. Billing

• Paid memberships are subscriptions. They renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or yearly) until you cancel.
• You authorise us, through our checkout provider Circle and its payment processor, to charge your payment method at the start of each period.
• If a payment fails, we may retry it. If it keeps failing, your membership may be paused or cancelled.
• If we change the price of the Member plan, we will tell you by email at least 30 days before your next renewal. The new price applies from that renewal. You can cancel before it takes effect.

4. Founding price lock

• Founding 200 memberships are limited to 200 seats in total, across the yearly and monthly options, and are sold only during launch week.
• If you buy a Founding 200 membership, your price stays at $79 per year or $15 per month, whichever you bought, for as long as your membership remains active without interruption.
• The price lock ends if your membership is cancelled, lapses for non-payment, or is ended under section 9. If you rejoin later, you pay the current price.
• The price lock is personal to you and cannot be transferred or sold.
• The lock applies to the membership price. It does not cover separately sold services such as Push, or taxes.

5. Cancellation and refunds

• You can cancel at any time from your account in the community, or by emailing TODO: contact email.
• When you cancel, you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. You will not be charged again.
• Refunds: TODO: refund policy (for example, a full refund within 14 days of first purchase).
• If you are a consumer in the EEA or UK, you may have a legal right to withdraw within 14 days of purchase. TODO: confirm how this applies to digital services that begin immediately.
• Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be waived.

6. Flight deals

Please read this part carefully.

• Prices in our alerts and on deal pages are “seen at” prices. They are fares we observed at a point in time from third-party data.
• Fares change and disappear quickly. A fare may be gone, or different, by the time you look. Mistake fares in particular can be withdrawn or cancelled by the airline, sometimes after booking.
• We do not guarantee that any price, route, date or seat is available, that a fare will be honoured, or that a deal suits your needs.
• Always check the final price, baggage rules, connection times, visa and entry requirements, and cancellation terms on the booking site before you pay.
• We suggest waiting until your ticket is confirmed before booking anything non-refundable around it.
• We are not responsible for losses that come from a fare being unavailable, changed or cancelled.

7. Affiliate links

Some links on Holocene are affiliate links, including flight links. If you book through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We choose deals on price, not on commission.

8. Curated content

Our accommodations, restaurant guides and experiences are personal recommendations. Details such as prices, opening hours and availability change. Check with the provider before you rely on them. We do not own, operate or inspect the places we list.

9. Community conduct

The community exists so people can build a life of travel together. To keep it that way:

• Be kind. No harassment, hate speech, threats or personal attacks.
• No spam, unsolicited selling, or recruiting members for other products without our permission.
• Do not share other members’ posts, personal details or call recordings outside the community.
• Do not post anything illegal, or anything you do not have the right to share.
• One account per person. Do not share your login or the member library with non-members.
• Meetups and trips arranged between members are at your own risk. We do not vet members and are not a party to arrangements between them.

We may remove content, and suspend or end a membership, if these rules are broken. If we end your membership for a serious or repeated breach, we are not required to give a refund.

10. Your content

You keep ownership of what you post. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host and display it inside the community so the community can work. We will ask before using your posts in marketing.

11. Referral programme

• You earn referral rewards when people sign up through your personal link and confirm their email address. Unconfirmed sign-ups do not count.
• Each person can be referred once. You cannot refer yourself.
• Fraud voids rewards. Fake, duplicate, disposable or automated sign-ups, and sign-ups made by you or on your behalf, do not count. We may remove them, withhold or withdraw rewards, and remove anyone we reasonably believe is abusing the programme.
• Current reward levels are shown on your welcome page. We decide in good faith whether a referral qualifies, and our count is final.
• Rewards have no cash value, cannot be transferred, and cannot be exchanged unless we say otherwise.
• “Top referrer” rewards are based on confirmed referrals at the time doors open. Ties: TODO: tie-break rule.
• We may change or end the referral programme at any time. Rewards already earned under the rules will be honoured.

12. Our content

The site, guides, libraries and emails are ours or our licensors’. Your membership gives you a personal, non-transferable right to use them for your own travel planning. Please do not copy, scrape, resell or republish them.

13. Disclaimers and liability

• Holocene is provided “as is”. We work to keep it accurate and available, but we do not promise it will be error-free or uninterrupted.
• Travel involves risk. You are responsible for your own travel decisions, documents, insurance, health and safety.
• To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for the acts of airlines, booking sites, hosts, venues or other members.
• Our total liability to you in any 12-month period is limited to the amount you paid us in that period.
• Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will email members at least 14 days before it takes effect. If you keep your membership after that, the new terms apply.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of TODO: governing law and jurisdiction, without affecting consumer rights you have where you live.
